Our founder James always kept chickens and ducks at his childhood family home. As a young boy it was his responsibility to clean out and care for the birds.
At school his favourite subject was agriculture and James felt he excelled in this particular field.
To fund his hobby and passion, James turned to hatching his own eggs and building his own flock. The profit he made went straight back into caring for the birds he loved so much. In 2016 with the help of his wife Diana, James started Eggland UK and turned his much loved hobby into a small growing business.

Our eggs have an ”egg”cellent hatch rate. However sometimes things can still go wrong. To ensure the best possible chance of hatching some of our super cute chicks, have a look at our top tips below.
1. After receiving your fresh eggs we recommend you allow them to rest with the pointed end down for 24 hours.
2. Before you attempt to incubate and hatch your eggs. Make sure your equipment has been properly sterilised with an incubation disinfectant solution. This helps prevent the growth of bad bacteria that multiply rapidly in the warm environment.
3. We recommend turning on the incubator and keeping it at 37.5C for 24 hours before placing the eggs inside. Using a hygrometer will help you maintain a consistent temperature of 37.5 and a humidity level that ranges between 45 - 50%. After 18 days the humidity should be increased to between 60 -70%
4. We advise you to candle your eggs using a special candling torch at around 7 days and again at 14 days . Fertility of the eggs cannot be determined before incubation. It is easiest to see development of embryos after a week.
The most important period of incubation is the first seven days so if you do decide to candle your eggs before, take extra care and do not overheat them.
Please remember that not all your eggs will hatch no matter where you buy them from. You should expect a success rate between 50 - 70% as not all eggs will be fertile .
We wish you the best of luck and happy hatching!
From the team at Eggland UK.
